To ensure a healthy lawn, it needs the right nourishment. But what kind of fertilizer do you need? Do you need a separate product to keep your weeds controlled? When and in what order do you apply the products and how many times a year do you need to?
These are common questions for every homeowner and often ones they don’t have the time to research and find out. Not to worry, Pro-Mow, Inc. is here to help! We offer lawn fertilizer services guaranteed to deliver the balance of nutrients necessary to fight off weeds and bring you a green and vibrant lawn.
All 3 programs include the first 5 services listed below. These services are scheduled between 6 and 8 weeks apart, allowing our slow-release fertilizers to continue feeding your lawn throughout the growing season.
Blended fertilizers are applied to enhance spring green up and root development for increased turf density. A pre-emergent is applied for the control of crabgrass and grassy weeds.
Slow-release fertilizers are applied for controlled color and growth as well as a second application of pre-emergent for prolonged and weed control.
A complete lawn inspection, including evaluation for fall aeration and over-seeding. Summer service is primarily a weed control service, not a fertilizer application.
Slow and fast release fertilizers are applied to aid in summer stress recovery and enhance fall color.
Specially blended fertilizers are applied to enhance root development leading to a speedier early spring green-up.
Lime Application: (June – September). The primary purpose of a lime application is to adjust and balance the pH (acidity or alkalinity) of the soil. Virginia soil is naturally very acidic as most of Virginia soil is clay based. Additional Lime application benefits include providing plant nutrients, aiding in fertilizer solubility and reduction in toxicity of certain damaging elements.
Lime applications are done in conjunction with your summer service to help prepare soils for fall over-seeding and increased fertilizer solubility aiding in summer stress recovery.
Grub Preventative: (April – early June). Grubs are the larvae of beetle species that feed on the roots of your lawn and can quickly cause a lot of damage.
Core Aeration & Over-Seeding: (September – mid-November).
During the core aeration process, a powered device is rolled over your lawn with metal tubes penetrating several inches, removing plugs of thatch and soil then depositing them on the surface. These plugs create holes which allow air, water, and organic matter to reach the root system. Your lawn is then over seeded with the highest quality certified seed available.
Upon completion of each service our lawn fertilization technician will leave an informational bulletin and small yard sign notifying you that we were at the property.
Your satisfaction is very important to us. Regardless of the program you choose, if you have questions or concerns regarding your lawn, we will gladly visit your property between scheduled visits when needed.
Lawn fertilizer contains the nutrients your grass needs to survive and thrive. Fertilizing your lawn is a component of basic lawn maintenance that every lawn should have, but lawn fertilization has specific benefits most people don’t think about including:
Most of today’s fertilizers carry weed-prevention treatments. Even those that don’t will help with weed control by giving the healthy grass the tools it needs to grow thick and strong. Thick, strong grass with a deep bed of roots will be less likely to fall victim to weeds.
Have you ever lost a big portion of your grass? This is often due to disease, which attacks the grass from the root. When grass has the right nutrients to grow strong, it’s much less prone to disease.
Every homeowner knows the frustration of grass that grows thick and lush in one area of the yard, only to become sparse and thin in another. Often, this is due to a lack of nutrients in the less-lush part of the yard. Uneven nutrients can be caused by natural factors that affect the soil differently in different parts of the yard. Lawn fertilization will help produce uniform growth, with the entire lawn looking lush and thick.
Grass draws nutrients from the soil to grow healthy. Thick grass, which is the result of fertilization, helps eliminate soil runoff. Properly fertilized soil is also less likely to become depleted by natural rain and storms. Healthy soil will promote healthy grass for future years, so this is an investment in the future of your yard.
Finally, a healthy lawn that’s properly fertilized is more resistant to damage from pests. Whether or not your fertilizer includes insecticides, the thicker your lawn grows, the harder it is for pests to take hold.

Q: How often should I fertilize my lawn during the growing season?
