Pro-Mow’s address is 42406 Azalea Lane in Dulles. It is where our crews work out of, where the office answers the phone from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, and where our sister company, Superior Sprinkler Systems, runs its irrigation business. If your property is in Dulles, your lawn is about as close to our trucks as a lawn can get.
The company started in 1990 when Chris Gepford borrowed $500 from his father to buy a good mower and began cutting yards after his day job at Dulles Airport. Within a few years it was his full time work. Today the business is run by his family, with his son Brian Gepford as General Manager, and we have spent over 35 years caring for lawns across Loudoun County.
Being nearby is not just a talking point. It changes a few practical things about how your service runs.
A fixed day that stays fixed. Your mowing day is the same every week. If weather pushes us off it, we come back the next business day, Saturday included, and the week after returns to your normal day as long as four days have passed.
Return visits that actually happen. If something looks wrong between fertilization visits, a patch that is not greening up or a weed that slipped through, call us and we will come back out to look. When the crew is already a few minutes away, that is an easy promise to keep.
One family for lawn and irrigation. Superior Sprinkler Systems has designed and installed irrigation across Loudoun County since 1991. It shares our address and our ownership. If a lawn is being fed and mowed correctly and still browns out every August, watering is usually the gap, and we can hand that part over without you having to vet a stranger.
A lot of the housing in and around Dulles is recent, and builder lawns have a specific set of problems. Sod is usually laid on graded ground with a thin layer of topsoil over subsoil that construction traffic packed down hard. The lawn can look fine for the first year or two because the sod arrived healthy. Then the roots hit that compacted layer and stop going down.
The answer is earlier aeration than most new owners expect. We suggest the first core aeration in the second fall after the sod goes down, once the seams have knitted together, rather than waiting until the lawn visibly fails in year four or five. We also recommend patience over heavier feeding. Young turf on poor soil does not need more fertilizer. It needs room for roots.
Every turf area is cut once a week at a height suited to the cool season grasses grown in Northern Virginia. A consistent cut makes grass spread sideways, which thickens the lawn, fills bare spots, crowds out weeds and helps hold the soil in place. Each mowing visit covers:
One request if you have irrigation: keep it off for the twenty four hours before your mowing day. Cutting saturated turf tears the blades and leaves wheel marks that can stay visible for weeks.
Loudoun’s clay soil is naturally acidic, which limits how much of any fertilizer the grass can actually use. Our fertilization programs are built around five core applications six to eight weeks apart, from February through December, using slow release product.
Spring brings a blended feed with pre-emergent to stop crabgrass, followed by a second slow release feeding and a second pre-emergent. The summer visit is an inspection and weed control service rather than fertilizer, and it is where we decide whether the lawn needs fall aeration. Early fall helps the lawn recover from summer stress, and the late fall application builds roots so the lawn greens up faster the next spring.
You can choose from three packages. Basic Care is the five core steps. Basic Care Plus is seven, adding lime between June and September to correct soil pH before fall overseeding and a grub preventative between April and early June. Premium Care is eight and includes core aeration and overseeding. All of it is phosphorus free, in line with Chesapeake Bay watershed guidelines, and each visit ends with an information bulletin and a small yard sign so you know what went down and when.
Mulch. We clear beds of weeds, leaves and debris, cut a crisp edge against the turf, apply a granular pre-emergent and install double shredded hardwood at a uniform two and a half inches. Colors are black, brown and natural. On a new build, fresh mulch and defined bed lines do a lot to make young landscaping look finished.
Hedges and shrubs. Trimming to control size, direct growth and encourage fuller flowering on hedges, shrubs, ornamental grasses and crape myrtles.
Leaves. Weekly leaf removal is an add on for mowing customers, bagging the cut all fall. The one time complete cleanup clears the whole property, including decks, patios, stairwells, fence lines and around the AC unit. Loudoun County has no municipal leaf pickup, so we bag rather than pile at the curb.
We are at 42406 Azalea Lane, Dulles, VA 20166. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The second fall after the sod is laid is a good first aeration. Builder lawns sit on thin topsoil over subsoil compacted by construction equipment, and waiting until the lawn starts failing usually means waiting four or five years.
It is a sister company run by the same family from the same address. It has installed and serviced irrigation in Loudoun County since 1991, so if watering turns out to be the problem, the handoff is to people we work with every day.
After every fertilization or weed control visit, the technician leaves a small sign in the yard and an information bulletin that explains what was applied and how to water and mow until the next visit.
We measure the lawn on site and look at access and obstacles, then give you a free written quote. There is no flat rate, because two lawns the same size can take very different amounts of work.
Our crews leave Dulles every morning for neighborhoods across eastern Loudoun and western Fairfax, including Sterling, Ashburn, South Riding, Brambleton, Stone Ridge, Chantilly, Herndon and Aldie.
Call 703-957-4880 for a free Dulles quote. Let us know when the house was built and whether it has irrigation, and we can usually tell you what the lawn needs before we arrive.
